The John Muir Trust plays a pivotal role in protecting Scotland's wild places. Their vision of "a world where wild places are respected and protected, where nature flourishes and where the value of wildness is shared for the benefit of everyone," is very near and dear to us, as it ought to be for anyone with a passion for whisky.
Long before Stewart Whisky existed, conservation of Scotland's wild places has been a passion and since the first bottled release in 2021 we have been dedicating a portion of our Stiùbhart Single Cask sales to the trust's work on East Schiehallion.
This legendary mountain, Sìth Chaillean in Gaelic, is home to rare native flora and fauna and has been a favourite of walkers for centuries. It is both a place of ancient spiritual significance (the name translates to "Fairy Hill of the Caledonians") and one of scientific value as the site of the first "weighing of the world".
With nearly 900 hectares under the stewardship of the Trust, East Schiehallion and nearby Gleann Mòr have seen remarkable regeneration of native woodland, path maintenance and habitat protection.
Whisky is a delight but ultimately a fleeting one. If our efforts in this sphere contribute to something so important as safeguarding Scotland's wild places then we will consider that a good measure of success.
Please join us in supporting the work of the John Muir Trust, at Schiehallion and other special places including Skye, Knoydart, Ben Nevis and more.
